BREAKING: There will be a rally to protest the introduction of Right to Work legislation Tuesday, February 24 and Wednesday February 25 at 12:00 p.m. at the state Capitol. We must stand together for our rights as workers and raise our voices in our democracy to stop Right to Work legislation from moving forward in Wisconsin.

WHAT: Rally to Oppose Right to Work

The Senate Committee on Labor and Government Reform will be holding a hearing Tuesday, February 24. Please join us at 9:00 a.m. to testify in opposition of Right to Work.

Republicans are planning to ram this legislation through in an extraordinary session at lightning pace. An extraordinary session changes the rules, limits debate and makes a mockery out of our democracy. A Right to Work bill could pass both houses and be signed into law by the Governor in days.

Making Wisconsin a Right to Work state will not create jobs. Claimed advantages of Right to Work are unproven. Nationally recognized economists agree Right to Work provides no discernible economic advantage. By lowering wages, Right to Work would weaken consumption and may undermine Wisconsin’s small businesses which depend on workers having wages to spend.

Stand up, fight back, participate in democracy. Join us at the Capitol.

“Right to Work” is an extreme political agenda being pushed by corporate special interests. It is designed for a single purpose: to weaken the basic rights of workers so that CEOs have more and workers have less.
Less Wages
•The average worker in states with “right to work” laws makes $1,540 a year less when all other factors are removed than workers in other states (Economic Policy Institute).
•Median Household income in states with “right to work” laws is $6,437 less than in other states ($46,402 vs. $52,839). (U.S. Census Bureau).
Less Health Care Coverage
•People in states with “right to work” laws are more likely to be uninsured (16.8% vs. 13.1% overall). (Kaiser Family Foundation).
•Only 50.7 percent of employers in states with these laws offer insurance coverage to their employees, compared with 55.2% in other states. (Kaiser Family Foundation).

Since the election is less than 20 days away you now have two options to register to vote if you are not already registered:

1. Register in person at your municipal clerk’s office.
2. Register at the polling place on Election Day.

If you are not registered you will need the following to register:
1. Wisconsin Voter Registration Application (GAB-131) form (we have these available for you at the Union Office).
2. Current and Valid WI driver license or WI DOT-issued ID. If these are revoked, suspended, or expired you must provide the last 4 digits of your Social Security number. If you have none of these documents, you will be able to indicate that fact.
3. Proof of Residence (includes but not limited to the following:)
Fishing and hunting licenses
Vehicle registrations
Food stamps, WI Works, WI Shares, and BadgerCare notices and correspondence
Medicare notices
Social Security and SSI notices/benefits statements
Billing statements and collection notices from a governmental entity
